He agrees to help Catherine, a vampire from his old life, destroy the Hollower—an ancient creature that feeds on vampires by drawing the demons out of their bodies. Angel turns to Giles for information, and their research reveals the horrifying stakes: after consuming 3,000 vampires, the Hollower will release all those demons into the bodies of nearby living people, potentially unleashing a catastrophe upon Sunnydale.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe story also flashes back to 1892 Vienna, where Angelus, Spike, Drusilla, and Catherine first encountered the Hollower, giving Angel's present-day struggle a direct connection to his darker history. Meanwhile, Buffy discovers that Angel has been secretly involved with Catherine and the monster. Her greatest concern isn't simply whether Angel can defeat the Hollower—she begins to suspect that Angel may actually want the creature to attack him, hoping it might somehow destroy the Angelus still buried inside him. The issue ends with this troubling thought, setting up what happens in the next issue, #3.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe issue was written by Christopher Golden, with pencils by Hector Gómez, inks by Sandu Florea, and colors by Guy Major.
