It was chartered to Finnlines Oy for 4 months immediately after completion in May 1965 and sailed as the Helsinki Express. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn December 1965 it was chartered to Pan American Cruise Lines for cruises from Miami Nassau. In September 1966 the charter was taken over by Ted Arison (who a few years later would launch Carnival Cruise Lines and found the modern cruise industry) and the ship was renamed Jamaica Queen. The Israeli government seized the ship two months later when the owner Nils-Somerfin ran into financial problems.
