Unable to do so, she is visited by a mysterious little man who offers to perform the impossible task in exchange for her necklace, and later her ring. When the king demands even more gold, the little man agrees to help again, but this time he asks for her firstborn child as payment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAfter the young woman becomes queen and has a child, the mysterious helper returns to claim his promised reward. He offers to relinquish his claim if she can discover his name. After learning that his name is Rumpelstiltskin, she triumphantly confronts him with it. Furious that his secret has been discovered, Rumpelstiltskin disappears, leaving the queen and her child safe.
