Product description

Mid 1970's information packet for the China Navigation Co. Ltd (part of the John Swire group / Swire Shipping) cruise ship MV Coral Princess.  The packet includes a fold out full color info brochure (written in both English and Japanese), a fold out deck plan brochure (written in English and Japanese), a letter from John Swire Shipping, and two postmarked Coral Princess / John Swire envelopes.

The full color information brochure (English/Japanese) folds out to a size of  24" x 17 3/4" (610mm x 450mm) and has descriptions and many large photos of the ship's interior and exterior, info on the crew, and deck plans.  Photos include the Funnel Deck, outdoor swimming pool, shuffleboard and deck tennis, Moonlight Room, London Bar, Rendezvous Lounge, Restaurant, Auditorium, Coral Boutique, Library, two berth cabin, three berth cabin, and four berth cabin.

The single sided deck plan brochure (English/Japanese) folds out to a large size of 24" x 17 3/4" (610mm x 445mm) and has detailed deck plans of Boat Deck, Promenade Deck, A Deck, B Deck, and C Deck.

There is a letter from Swire Shipping Japan's representative dated August 1977 (in a John Swire & Sons Japan airmail envelope) explaining that the ship was chartered out to Japanese organizations and travel agents for seminar cruises and so accommodations on its sailings couldn't be booked by the public at the time.

The info packet is enclosed in a large white envelope with an illustration of the Coral Princess' profile on the front and Japanese writing.

Condition: The full color brochure and deck plan brochure are both in excellent condition.  The letter is in very good condition.  The envelopes have a few wrinkles from being mailed.

Ships' History: The 9,696 ton 477 ft long Coral Princess entered service in 1962 as the Princessa Leopoldina for the Brazilian shipping company Cia. Nacional de Nav. Costeria Autarquia Federal (and was later transferred to Cia. de Nav. Lloyd Brasiliero) and sailed on their South American coastal service from Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires.  The ship was laidup in 1969, and was sold in 1970 to China Navigation Co. (part of the John Swire group / Swire Shipping).  The ship was refitted as a cruise ship and renamed Coral Princess.  The ship was sold in 1990 to the Taiwan company Universal Boss and became the gambling ship Cora Princess (and later Coral Princess again). In 2000 it was renamed Millennium Queen.  The ship was sold for scrap in 2001.
