Product Description
Vintage promotional wooden safety matches matchbox from the 1980's advertising St. Charlie's Bar & Restaurant on 4 Albany St. in lower Manhattan, New York City.
St. Charlie's was near the south tower of the World Trade Center and after 9/11 it served as a meeting place for medics and rescue workers who used it as a free watering hole. A New York Times article in late 2001 about the financial losses the owners sustained dubbed it the 'Ground Zero Bar'.
The matchbook has the St. Charlie's name and logo on the top and bottom and "lunch dinner cocktail". The address and phone number are on the side.
The matchbox has some wear: the strike pad on the matchbox has been used and one end of the inner box is torn. There are only 3 matches in the box (see photos).
