Vintage 1960's molded plastic President Abraham Lincoln bust made in the Mold-A-Rama machine in the Union Carbide Hall of Elements at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois during a trip to the museum in 1968.
The bust measures 5" tall x 3" wide by 2.5" deep (127mm x 76mm x 64mm) . The front of the bust has the Union Carbide logo and says "Hall of Elements". The back says "Abraham Lincoln. 16th Pres 1861-1865" and "Museum of Science and Industry".
Condition: The bust has some light damage on the right side that is noticeable on close inspection but the statue still looks nice when displayed on a shelf. There is a thin crack on the right side that runs from the underside up along the right side of the back and over the shoulder to the neck, and there is some minor yellowing of the plastic due to age (see photos).
The Mold-A-Rama vending machine at the museum made the plastic injection molded statues as you waited. A few minutes after inserting a quarter in the coin slot, the freshly made statue would come down the machine's chute. The machines made their debut in 1962, and Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry first offered the machines to visitors around 1967.
