Product description

John Baer's Sons Agricultural Almanac 1947 (122nd volume). Published by John Baer's Sons Inc., Lancaster Pennsylvania in 1947. Soft cover booklet, 34 printed pages. The almanac measures 8 5/8" x 6 3/4" (219mm x 172mm).

Condition:  The top right corner tip of the pages was snipped/torn off by the original owner as each month passed (see photos).  The front cover has a small 1/2" tear near the bottom right corner and a few smudges along the edges.  The staple binding is still intact, and the pages are still white without any signs of aging.

Details: Published in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the 1947 edition (122nd volume) of John Baer's Sons Agricultural Almanac continues a long-standing tradition of serving rural American households, particularly across Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region. Originally founded in 1825, the annual publication is modeled after early German-American calendar tradition and is designed as both a practical guide and a household miscellany. Featuring its iconic woodcut-style cover illustration, the 1947 issue blends traditional folk wisdom with mid-20th-century agrarian advice, reflecting a post-World War II agricultural landscape adapting to modernization while remaining rooted in heritage.

Inside, the volume provides essential astronomical data, month-by-month calendars, lunar tables, and weather forecasts tailored to regional planting and harvesting schedules. Alongside these core agricultural references, the almanac contains a rich mix of farming tips, livestock advice, and practical reference material intended for farmers, gardeners, and households.

The publication represents a longstanding Pennsylvania tradition of printed almanacs that served as useful household companions and sources of general-interest reading. Today, it offers a glimpse into mid-20th-century rural life and popular traditions, making it of interest to collectors of vintage almanacs, Pennsylvania history, agricultural publications, and Americana ephemera.
