The brochure has a photo of the ship, highlights and a description of the cruise, detailed itinerary, and room rates.

Condition: The brochure's covers have some damage.  The front cover has a 1 inch diagonal piece that is missing on the top right corner (see photo 4) and two small 1/4" tears along the right edge, and a 1/4" tear on the left edge. The back cover has some faint spots and there is a 1/4" piece missing on the left edge (see photos).

Ship History: The 23,719 ton 682-ft long ss Independence and its sister ship the ss Constitution were built in 1951 in the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard in Quincy Massachusetts and sailed with American Export until 1969 when it and its sister ship the ss Constitution were laid up.

In 1974 the two ships were sold to Atlantic Far East Line and the Independence was renamed the Oceanic Independence.  The Independence was laid up again in 1976.

In 1980 the two ships were sold to American Hawaii Lines and the ship's name was changed back to Independence.  The Constitution was laid up in 1996 but the Independence continued to sail until 2001 when American Hawaii filed for bankruptcy.  The ship was owned by Norwegian Cruise Line from 2003-2005 but never entered service with them. It was scrapped in 2009.
