"S.S. Aquarama Remembering The Ship's Glory Days" 8-page "Special Section E" newspaper insert from the Thursday June 23, 1988 edition of the Muskegon Chronicle. The page size is 14" x 12" (356m x 308mm).
The special section was published to commemorate the Aquarama being sold and leaving its berth in Muskegon where it had been laid up from 1962-1988. The insert has photos and a lengthy article "Aquarama Sails Into Muskegon History" that explores the Aquarama's history and includes an interview with the ship's former Captain Morgan L. Howell
The newspaper's pages are yellowed from age, and there is some light wear on the right edge and a crease in the middle (see photos).
The 12,773 ton 520-ft long Aquarama was the largest passenger ship to ever sail on the Great Lakes. The Aquarama was built as the C4-S-B5 breakbulk cargo ship Marine Star in 1945. It was sold in 1952 and rebuilt as a passenger ship and entered service as the Aquarama in 1956. The ship was laid up in Muskegon in 1962 due to the high cost of operating it and never sailed again. It was sold in 1987, and moved from Muskegon to Windsor Ontario in 1988, and then from 1995-2007 it was berthed in Buffalo before finally being sold for scrap in 2007.
