Synopsis: Published in Spring 1987, this rare, one time pilot issue of Attitude was a New York-based teen magazine edited by David A. Keeps and published by Pilot Communications, Inc. (who also published the music magazine "Star Hits"), designed to appeal to young women interested in fashion, beauty, popular culture, lifestyle, and personal style. The magazine blended colorful fashion feature articles and practical shopping advice with health and beauty advice tips, celebrity interviews and spotlights, and articles about pop culture and entertainment. Its contents included fashion features such as “April Showers,” “Suiting a Budget,” and “Pricewise Swimwear,” along with beauty topics, and advice on dating and relationships.
The Spring 1987 pilot issue captures the era's '80's teen style and trendy aesthetic along with the pop-culture interests of the mid-1980s, featuring personalities including Charlie Sheen, Rob Lowe, Deweezil Zappa, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Matthew Broderick. Additional material included a celebrity recipe feature, a reader survey, a fashion-and-beauty contest, and a shopping guide. Highlights from the issue included "The Secret Art of Nightclubbing," "Star Style: Celebrities à la mode," and career spotlights on prominent figures of 1980s indie culture like filmmaker Susan Seidelman and artist/actress Ann Magnuson.
Despite the test issue of Attitude breaking even, the publishers chose not to continue the teen pop culture and fashion magazine beyond this initial Spring 1987 release.
Condition: The magazine is in very good to excellent condition. It has small light creases on the right side corner tips. (see photos).
