Product Description

Late 1950's chrome postcard showing the B&I (British & Irish Steam Packet Co.) dock and ships at the mouth of the River Liffey in Dublin Harbour.

On the far side of the river are the B&I ships: the large middle ship is one of the line's Dublin to Liverpool ferries (either the 5,000 ton MV Munster or its sistership the MV Leinster), and the ship in front of it is a B&I cargo ship.

The Munster and Leinster were built in 1947/48.  In 1969 the Munster was sold to Epirotiki Lines and became the Orpheus and the Leinster was sold to Sun Line and became the Aphrodite.

The small ship in the bottom right corner with the yellow funnel is the 309 ton coastal steamer MV Murell which was built in 1940 and owned by J Tyrell shipping.

The card was published by Avon Sales Ltd, Dublin. It is a "Plastichrome" postcard by Colourpicture Publishers Inc.

The postcard has a large vertical crease near the center (see photos).  The card is used and postmarked (the postmark is faint but it appears to be dated 1959).
