The brochure has a basic deck plan of the Promenade Deck and a cutaway profile showing the location of important features of the ship.
The brochure also has info on British Railways train service to the ferry.
The brochure was published by British Railways (eastern Division) and printed in Great Britain at The Baynard Press, London in the late 1950's.
Condition: The brochure is in overall very good condition but the back panel has some white marks from where it was taped into a photo album (see the 4th photo).
Ship History: The 4,325 ton 358 ft ss Duke of York was built in 1935 for London Midland and Scottish Railway and as built had two funnels. It served with the Royal Navy from 1942 to 1948 and then returned to passenger ferry service with British Railways. In 1950 it was rebuilt and the second funnel was removed. In 1953 it collided with the US Navy ship Haiti Victory and the ship's bow broke off and sank, and eight passengers were killed. The ship was repaired and given a new bow and returned to service in 1954. It was sold to Chandris Lines in 1963 and renamed the Fantasia and converted to a cruise ship. It was laid up in 1975 and scrapped the following year.
