Product Description
Vintage 10-strike matchbook cover (no matches) from the 1950's advertising the upscale Cadillac Lounge bar which was located in the Schofield Building at East Ninth St and Euclid Ave in Cleveland, Ohio.
The historic Cadillac Lounge was opened in 1946 by night club owner Gloria Lenihan and was one of Cleveland's first and most influential gay bars. The two-story bar had a strict formal dress code, had artwork and murals by Cleveland artist William C. Grauer hanging on the walls, and often featured live piano performances. The bar closed in 1970.
The front side and strike side covers of the matchbook have the lounge's name and location. The inside of the matchbook says "Cleveland's Fashionable Lounge Bar".
The matchbook is a "Ten-Strike" matchbook made by Universal Match Corp of St. Louis / New York and the 10-strike logo is on the inside.
The matchbook cover is in overall good condition. There is some light wear on the gold finish overlay of the matchbook which is partially lifting up on the top end (see photos). The matchbook is empty and there are no matches, and the strike pad appears to be unused.
