Carnival purchased the Empress of Canada/Mardi Gras in 1972 and operated it until 1993 when it was sold to Epirotiki who chartered it to Gold Star Cruises and it was renamed the Star of Texas (and later Lucky Star). Epirotiki merged with Sun Lines in 1995 and the company was renamed Royal Olympic. The ship was renamed the Apollon in 1995 and sailed with Royal Olympic until 2003 when it was sold for scrap.
