Vintage early 1980's Commodore Cruises matchbook advertising the company's ships Caribe I and Boheme. The "Aristocrat" matchbook was made by Universal Match Co. of St. Louis.
The front and back covers of the matchbook have the Commodore Cruises logo with a ship, the ship names Caribe I and Boheme, and the company's slogsn "The Happy Ships". Printed inside the cover are the ship names and the slogan "The Happiest Ships Sailing The Caribbean".
The matchbook is used and empty and there are no matches. The strike pad has been used. (see photos).
The Caribe was originally called the TSS Olympia when it was built for Greek Line in 1953. The 22,979 ton Olympia sailed with Greek Line from 1953 until 1974 when it was laid up due to rising fuel prices. It was sold to Commodore Cruise Line in 1981 and renamed the Caribe I. It was sold again in 1993 to Regal Cruise Line and operated as the Regal Empress from 1993-2009.
The 10,328 ton Boheme was built in 1968 and sailed with Commodore until 1985 when it was sold to a Church of Scientology affiliated company and renamed the Freewinds. As the Freewinds, it has been used for Scientology seminars and teaching since 1986.
