4-panel 2-sided full color brochure for the 1979-1980 Pacific Coastal Cruises aboard Delta Line Cruises four U.S. flag 20,000 ton cargoliners Santa Maria, Santa Magdalena, Santa Mariana, and Santa Mercedes. The brochure also has a one-page insert with updated sailing dates and 1979-1980 room rates and fares.
The itinerary for the 10-day roundtrip cruise was Los Angles to San Francisco to Vancouver B.C. to Tacoma to San Francisco to Los Angeles.
The brochure has a description of the cruise, photos of the ship (front cover) and the outdoor Pool Deck swimming pool, a description and photo of the stateroom, detailed deck plans (Bridge Deck, Pool Deck, Sun Deck), room rates, itineraries and sailing schedules, and general passenger information.
Condition: The brochure and insert are both in excellent condition. (see photos).
Ship History: The cruises were aboard Delta Line's four 20,000 ton 125 passenger Santa Cruiseliner class U.S. registered ships: Santa Maria, Santa Magdalena, Santa Mariana, and Santa Mercedes. The 4 ships were built in 1964- 1965 for Grace Line which was purchased by Prudential Line in 1970, and then Delta Line bought Prudential in 1979. The ships sailed with Delta Line until 1984 when they were laid up. The Santa Maria, Santa Magdalena, Santa Mariana were sold for scrap in 1988.
The ss Santa Mercedes was converted into a training ship for the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and renamed the USTS Patriot State. The ship served until 1999 when it was withdrawn from service. The ship was scrapped in 2011.
