Full color fold-out brochure, effective August 1st 1963, for the 1963 7-day Caribbean cruises to Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Jamaica, and Nassau aboard the Eastern Steamship Co. ship ss Ariadne.
The brochure has many photos and descriptions of the ship's interior rooms and exterior, descriptions of ports of call, detailed deck plans, room rates, sailing schedule and itinerary, and general information.
The brochure folds out to a size of 18" x 16" (457mm x 406mm).
The brochure is in very good condition (see photos).
The ship was originally built in 1951 for Swedish Lloyd as the 7,500 ton passenger ferry ss Patricia and sailed on their London to Gothenburg route and served as a cruise ship during winter months. In 1957 the ship was sold to Hamburg American (HAPAG) and refitted as a luxury cruise ship and renamed Ariadne. In 1960 the ship was purchsed by Eastern Shipping (later renamed Eastern Steamship). In 1972 the ship was "traded" to Chandris for the ss Atlantis (which was renamed the Emerald Seas) and renamed it ss Bon Vivant. The ship was sold by Chandris in 1976 and became a hotel ship in Dubai. In 1978 Chandris repurchased the ship and renamed it the ss Ariane. The ship was laid up from 1979 until 1989 when it was sold, renamed the Empress Katarina, and became a accommodation/barracks ship in Asia until 1997 when it was scrapped.
