Vintage 36-page "welcome aboard guide" booklet from 1962 given to Tourist Class passengers aboard the French Line flagship ss France during Trans-Atlantic crossings in the early 1960's. The booklet measures 8 5/8" x 4" (219mm x 102mm)
The book contains comprehensive information about the ship and cruise for Tourist Class passengers: facts about the ss France (including statistics, a listing of decks) and the history of the French Line and previous ships named "ss France", main public rooms info, amenities for comfort and pleasure, services on board, technical info about the ship (the hull, engines and electrical power, drinking water, security, etc), and general information for passengers.
Condition: The back cover is damaged from being attached to a scrapbook (brown marks, tears, see photos #2 &13) but the rest of the brochure is otherwise in very good condition.
Ship's History: The France was built in 1962 and sailed with French Line (Compagnie Generale Transatlantique) as the S/S France from 1962-1974. NCL bought the ship in 1979 and refurbished it and renamed it ss Norway and it sailed with them until 1999 when it was damaged by a fire in the engine room. The ship was sold for scrap in 2003.
