Product Description

Antique white border postcard from the mid 1920's showing the "The Great White Liner 'South American', Chicago Duluth & Georgian Bay Transit Co., Chicago Ill." The ship is shown with the old Georgian Bay Line funnel colors (a red stripe was later added to the funnels).

The 314 foot Georgian Bay Line ship ss South American was built in 1913 and sailed the Great Lakes from Buffalo to Detroit to Mackinac Island to Chicago until 1967.  After retirement it was sold to the Seafarers Int'l Union and spent its last years docked in Camden New Jersey before being scrapped in 1992.  The ship's sister ship was the ss North American.

The card is unused and it is in very good condition but it has a very slight warp (but no creases, see photo).
