Vintage 30-strike matchbook cover (no matches) from the 1980's advertising the now defunct Hamburger Hamlet Bar-Grille restaurant chain.
Actor Harry Lewis opened the first Hamburger Hamlet in October 1950 on the Sunset Strip at 9201 Sunset Blvd in West Hollywood as a restaurant for actors. It quickly became a hangout for celebrities including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Curtis, Warren Beatty, Janet Leigh, Lucille Ball, Rosemary Clooney, and others. By the 1980's the restaurant had expanded to 20 locations in 5 states. The chain was sold in 1987, and the last Hamburger Hamlet location closed in 2017.
The front cover of the matchbook has the Hamburger Hamlet name and logo. The strike side of the matchbook says "Known For Simply Marvelous Food and Drink Since 1950". The inside of the matchbook has the addresses and phone numbers of the restaurant's 20 locations (15 in California, 2 in Washington D.C., 2 in Illinois, and 1 in Maryland).
The matchbook cover is in very good condition with some light wear on the edge in the middle. It is empty and there are no matches, and the strike pad appears to be unused (see photos).
