Small 3-panel 2-sided brochure for the 1974 Transatlantic Crossings aboard the Holland America Cruises sister ships s.s. Veendam and s.s. Volendam.

The brochure has a photo of the ships on the cover, a description of life aboard the ships, sailing schedules and itineraries, and room rates.

The sailings departed from Port Everglades and New York in the US. European ports of call, depending on the sailing, were Funchal, Casablanca, Lisbon, Gibralter, Bergen, Copenhagen, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Le Havre, Torquay, and Oslo.

The Veendam made twoeEastbound and two westboard crossings, and the Volendam made four eastbound and four westbound crossings.

Condition: The brochure has three small 1/2" circular spots, and some yellowing of the pages from age (see photos).

Ship History: The Volendam was originally built as the Brasil in 1958 for the US flag Moore-McCormack Lines. Holland America bought the ship in 1973 and renamed it the Volendam. From 1975-78 it sailed for Monarch Cruise Lines as the Monarch Sun and was returned to Holland America in 1978 and renamed Volendam again. In 1985 the ship was sold to American Hawaii Cruises and renamed ss Liberte after being rebuilt. In 1987 it was sold to Bermuda Star Line and renamed Canada Star and then Queen of Bermuda. In 1990 it was sold to Commodore Cruise Line and renamed the Enchanted Seas. From 1995-2004 it sailed as the Universe Explorer for the Semester At Sea program.

The Veendam was originally built as the Argentina in 1958 for the US flag Moore-McCormack Lines. Holland America bought the ship in 1973 and renamed it the Veendam. From 1976-78 it sailed for Monarch Cruise Lines as the Monarch Star and was returned to Holland America in 1978 and renamed Veendam again. In 1984 the ship was sold to Bahama Cruise Line and renamed Bermuda Star. In 1990 it was sold to Commodore Cruise Lines and sailed as the Enchanted Isle until 2000.
