Product description

3-panel 2-sided Program of Shore Excursions  for the 1953 West Indies Cruises of the Home Lines ship m/s Italia which departed from New Orleans Louisiana on January 31, February 17, March 5, and March 21 1953.

The shore excursion programs were operated by American Express.  The brochure describes in detail the available programs in each port of call: Kingston Jamaica, Curacao, La Guaira / Caracas Venezuela, San Juan Puerto Rico, and Havana Cuba.

The brochure is in very good condition (see photos).

The 21,250 ton Italia was built in 1928 as the Swedish American Line ship Kungsholm.  It sailed with them on their Trans-Atlantic service until 1942 when control of it passed to the US government's War Shipping Administration.  It was renamed John Erickson and served as a U.S. troop ship until 1947.  In 1947 it was sold to Home Lines and renamed Italia.  In 1964 it was sold to Freeport Bahama Enterprises, renamed 'Imperial Bahama', and was briefly used as a hotel ship until being scrapped in 1965.
