Early 1940's linen postcard showing the 23-story 1,000 room Hotel LaSalle which was located on the corner of LaSalle St. and Madison St. in the Chicago Loop downtown business district in Chicago, Illinois.
The luxury hotel was built in 1909 to cater to an elite and powerful crowd. Presidents Taft and Coolidge were among the hotel's famous guests. A severe fire that started in the hotel's cocktail lounge in June 1946 killed 61 people. The hotel reopened in 1947 after renovations. It closed in 1976 and was demolished to make way for the 2 North LaSalle office building.
The card is a "Genuine Curteich-Chicago C.T. Art-Colortone" postcard.
The card is unused and unposted. It is in very good condition with small marks on the back side from where it was attached to a postcard album. (see photos).
