Vintage 10-strike matchbook cover (no matches) from the 1950's advertising the 250 room Hotel President at 500 Sycamore St. in downtown Waterloo, Iowa.
The 9-story hotel was built in 1929 and operated as a hotel until 1968 when it was sold and converted into federally subsidized apartment rental housing. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2017.
The front cover and strike side covers both have an illustration of the hotel building. The front cover says "Hotel President, Air Conditioned Guest Rooms, Waterloo Iowa". The strike side says "Northeast Iowa's Finest, 250 rooms with bath". The manager, Lark Gable, is also listed.
The inside of the matchbook says "Facilities for Conventions, Sales Meetings, Banquets, Luncheons, Teas, Wedding Receptions"".
The matchbook is a ten-strike matchbook made in the USA by Universal Match Corp St. Louis / New York.
The matchbook cover is empty and there are no matches, the strike pad appears to be unused. The matchbook is in overall very good condition (see photos).
