Product description

Full color fold out brochure from May 1968 for the Continental Cruise Line ship M/S Jamaica Queen which sailed from Miami and offered 4-day cruises to Nassau (from $90), 5-day cruises to Jamaica (from $139), and 9-day cruises to Nassau and Jamaica (from $206).

The brochure has photos and descriptions of the ship and cruise, room rates, sailing dates, itineraries, detailed deck plans, and general information.

Condition: the brochure is in very good condition.  It has a couple of notations in pen from a passenger (see photos).

Ship History: The 7,851 ton 449 ft long was launched in 1964 as the Nili for Israeli ferry company Nils-Somerfin Car Ferries with a capacity of 544 passengers and 120 cars . It was chartered to Finnlines Oy for 4 months immediately after completion in May 1965 and sailed as the Helsinki Express.

In December 1965 it was chartered to Pan American Cruise Lines for cruises from Miami Nassau. In September 1966 the charter was taken over by Ted Arison (who a few years later would launch Carnival Cruise Lines and found the modern cruise industry) and the ship was renamed Jamaica Queen. The Israeli government seized the ship two months later when the owner Nils-Somerfin ran into financial problems. The ship was chartered to Continental Cruise Lines in 1967 and it sailed with them for 2 years before being sold to Weston Shipping in 1969 and renamed the Nili.

The ship was sold to NEL Lines of Greece in 1975 and renamed the Arion.  In 1981 the ship was bombed in Haifa by terrorists and declared a total loss .  It was scrapped in 1984.
