Synopsis: In Kelly Green #2: One, Two, Three…Die! (1983) by Leonard Starr and Stan Drake, Kelly Green once again works as a go-between between the legitimate and criminal worlds, using her connections to arrange the delivery of money in dangerous situations. This time, a seemingly simple case involving a kidnapped dog draws Kelly into the affairs of a wealthy and deeply dysfunctional family. As she becomes entangled with the family’s secrets—including blackmail, infidelity, and simmering resentments—what initially appears to be a straightforward kidnapping quickly develops into something far more sinister.
As Kelly investigates, a series of suspicious deaths and questionable characters turns the story into a murder mystery, with virtually everyone having something to hide and Kelly herself increasingly at risk. Starr builds the story around the question of who is responsible while Drake’s detailed artwork gives the book its polished early-1980s crime-noir atmosphere. The result is a darker and more personal mystery than The Go-Between, combining Kelly’s dangerous profession with a wealthy family whose private troubles ultimately have deadly consequences.
