Antique 1920's hand tinted Japanese postcard capturing a street scene on Matsugaebashi Dori (Matsugaebashi Street) in the Oura district of Nagasaki, Japan.
During the late 19th and early 20th centuries the Oura district was one of the main foreign settlement areas which is why the street was mixture of Western and traditional Japanese architecture, and many storefront signs on the street were bilingual.
The hand-tinted coloring technique was a hallmark of early 20th-century Japanese postcard production, making each card a unique artistic artifact.
Unused and in very good condition with a slight warp on the ends (see photos).
A rare window into interwar Nagasaki's urban landscape and architectural heritage.
