The brochure includes sailing schedules and fares for the:

  •  year round 38 day cruises from NY to Trinidad, Rio De Janeiro, Santos, Sao Paulo, Montevideo, and Argentina
  • five special 1953 summer cruises with expanded itineraries including calls at Barbados and Bahia

The three sister ships were built in 1928 for the American Line Steamship Corp, and in 1938 ownership transferred to the U.S. Maritime Commission.

The ships were operated by Panama Pacific Line until 1938 when Moore-McCormack was formed from the merger of 9 different U.S. owned shipping lines and the ship's names were changed from California / Virginia / Pennsylvania to Urugual / Brazil / Argentina.  All 3 ships were used as troop ships from 1942-1956 before returning to service with Moore-McCormack.

The Uruguay was laid up in 1954, the Brazil in 1958, and the Argentina in 1958.  All 3 ships were scrapped in 1964.
