Fold-out brochure from 1960 for the Far East Service passenger cargo liner voyages from Europe to Asia aboard North German Lloyd and Hamburg-American Line's six 9,000 ton ships: ms Schwabenstein (NGL), ms Hamburg (HAL), ms Hessenstein (NGL), ms Frankfurt (HAL), ms Bayernstein (NGL), and ms Hannover (HAL).
The voyages began in Germany with stops in Netherlands, the UK, Italy, before transiting the Suez Canal, Red Sea, and Indian Ocean. Asian ports of call included Penang, Singapore, Manila, Hong Kong, Japanese ports, and Colombo.
The brochure folds out to a size of 17" x 15.5" (432mm x 394mm). It was printed in Germany in 1960.
The brochure has written descriptions of life aboard the ships and their features, and of the voyages. It also has detailed deck plans of the ships' 4 passenger decks.
The brochure has several large color and black and white photos of the ship's public rooms and cabins, including: Dining Room, Nursery, Lounge, Bar, Foyers, Single Cabin With Sofa, Reading and Writing Room, Double Cabin With Sofa, and Verandah Cafe.
The brochure is in excellent condition (see photos).
The 538 ft long 9,000 to Passenger-Cargo Liners were built in 1953-54 and had accommodations for 90 passengers.
The six ships were sold by NGL and HAL in 1967 to United Overseas Export Lines in Monrovia for Asia service and they were renamed Oriental Ruler (Schwabenstein), Oriental Musician (Hessenstein), Oriental Lady (Bayernstein), Oriental Warrior (Hamburg), Oriental Hero (Frankfurt), and Oriental Inventor (Hannover).
The Oriental Warrior (Hamburg) caught fire after an engine room explosion and sank in 1972. The other 5 ships were scrapped in 1979.
