Product description

Antique hand tinted Japanese postcard capturing a street scene in front of the old prefecture police station in the Ohato section of Nagasaki, Japan.

Dating to the 1920s, this bilingual postcard (English and Japanese text) documents a pivotal era in Nagasaki's modernization, when the city was rebuilding its infrastructure and civic institutions following the Meiji Restoration.

The Ohato district was a vital commercial and administrative hub, and this police station represented Japan's adoption of Western-style governance structures.

The hand-tinted coloring technique was a hallmark of early 20th-century Japanese postcard production, making each card a unique artistic artifact.

Unused and in very good condition with a slight warp on the ends (see photos).

A rare window into interwar Nagasaki's urban landscape and architectural heritage.
