The ships carried 202 passengers and 6,000 tons of cargo and had a crew of 124.
The ss Ancon gained fame during World War II as the US Navy communications command ship USS Ancon (AGC-4). The ship served as the flagship for the D-Day assault forces that stormed Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. The ship was awarded 8 medals, including 5 battle stars for its WWII service. After WWII the ship returned to service with Panama Line and sailed until 1961 when it was transferred to the Maine Maritime Academy for use as a training ship and renamed State of Maine. The ship was scrapped in 1973.
The ss Panama served as the US troop ship USAT James Parker during WWII and then returned to passenger service in 1946. Panama Line sold it to American President Lines in 1957 and it was renamed the ss President Hoover. In 1965 it was sold to Chandris and renamed Regina and in 1973 it was renamed Regina Prima. The ship was scrapped in 1985.
The ss Cristobal spent its entire life with Panama Line with the exception of 5 years spent as a US troop ship during World War 2. The ship sailed the New York to Panama route until 1961 when the route was changed to New Orleans to Panama. The ship ailed until 1981 when it was scrapped.
