The 17,000 ton Sun Princess launched in 1972 as the P&O ship Spirit of London. It was transferred to Princess in 1974 when P&O acquired Princess and renamed Sun Princess. It was sold to Premier Cruises in 1988 and renamed Starship Majestic. It was sold to CTC in 1995 and renamed Southern Cross, and then sold again in 1998 to Festival Cruises in 1998 and renamed Flamenco. It was sold multiple times in the following years (and flew under the flags of Panama, Sierra Leone, and Togo) and in 2012 was renamed the Ocean Dream. It was scrapped in 2017 after sinking in port in 2016.
The 20,200 ton sister ships Island Princess and Pacific Princess were originally built in 1972 for Flagship Cruises as the Island Venture and Sea Venture. They were sold to P&O / Princess in 1974 and renamed Island Princess and Pacific Princess.
The 1970's/80's TV show The Love Boat was filmed mainly on the Pacific Princess (and some scenes were also shot on the Island Princess)
Princess sold the Island Princess to South Korea's Hyundai Merchant Marine and it operated as Hyundai Pungak carrying religious pilgrims. From 2002-2013 the ship was owned by Voyages of Discovery and sailed as the mv Discovery. The ship was scrapped in 2014.
The Pacific Princess sailed with Princess until 2002 when it was sold to Pullmantur Cruises / CVC and renamed mv Pacific. The ship was seized by Italian authorities in 2008 to satisfy a tax lien and was scrapped in 2012 after Italy was unable to find a buyer for the ship.
