Hard to find book Baby Farm Animals, A 'Little Golden Book', no. 443, published by Golden Press, New York in 1961 and printed in the U.S.A. by Western Publishing in 1961. Written and illustrated by Pierre Probst. Hardcover book, 24 printed pages , 7 7/8" x 6 3/4" (200mm x 171mm).
The story is part of Probst’s "Caroline" series (originally published in 1952 in France as Pouf le chaton bleu in French), and like many Little Golden Books of the era, it blends whimsical illustrations with a moral undertone.
Synopsis: Puff is a pampered selfish house cat and the other animals in his yard (Gray Mouse and Robin Red-Breast) don't want to play with him or be his friend so he jumps in a bucket of pain to disguise himself as a blue cat. The other animals are tricked by his blue color and his suddenly pleasant attitude and don't realize its Puff until the rain washes the blue paint off him. When they see its Puff they abandon their new play mate. Dejected Puff speaks to Grandpa Cat who tells him he needs to stop being selfish if he wants the other animals to like him. Puff decides to change his attitude and act nicer and the other animals become friends with him.
Condition: the book is in very good condition. The front cover has a child's initials written on it and some wear on the right side corner tips. The back cover graphics have some wear along the left side edges. The inside pages are in excellent condition (see photos)
