Product Description

Vintage promotional matchbox from the late 1980's advertising the Greek cruise line Regency Cruises and its three ships: Regent Sea, Regent Star, and Regent Sun.

The matchbook has the Regency Cruises logo and name on the front and back covers.  The back cover also has the company address.  Inside the matchbook the names of the line's three ships are listed.

The matchbook is in very good condition and all of the matches are intact and the "strike pad" is unstruck (see photos).

Regency Cruises operated from 1984 to 1995 when it declared bankruptcy.

The M.S. Regent Sea sailed with Regency from 1984-1995.  The ship was built was built in 1957 as the Swedish American Line's Gripsholm and sailed with them until 1975 when it was sold to Karageorgis and renamed the Navarino.  The ship sank in 2001 en route to be scrapped.

The M.S. Regent Star sailed with Regency from 1986 to 1995.  It was built in 1956 as the Holland America Line's Statendam and sailed with them until 1982 when it was sold to Paquet and renamed the Rhapsody.  The ship was scrapped in 2004.

The M.S. Regunt Sun sailed with Regency from 1988 to 1995. It was built in 1964 as the Zim Lines' Shalom.  In 1967 it was sold to German Atlantic Line and renamed the Hanseatic. Home Lines bought the ship in 1973 and renamed it the Doric. It was sold again in 1981 to Royal Cruise Line and renamed the Royal Odyssey.  The ship's fate mirrored that of the Regent Sea, it was sold for scrap in 2001 and sank en route to the shipbreakers.
