Synopsis: Rumpelstiltskin is a retelling of the classic Grimm fairy tale in which a poor miller boasts to the king that his daughter can spin straw into gold. The king locks the young woman in a room filled with straw and demands that she turn it into gold by morning. Unable to do so, she is visited by a mysterious little man who offers to perform the impossible task in exchange for her necklace, and later her ring. When the king demands even more gold, the little man agrees to help again, but this time he asks for her firstborn child as payment.

After the young woman becomes queen and has a child, the mysterious helper returns to claim his promised reward. He offers to relinquish his claim if she can discover his name. After learning that his name is Rumpelstiltskin, she triumphantly confronts him with it. Furious that his secret has been discovered, Rumpelstiltskin disappears, leaving the queen and her child safe. This 1959 Rand McNally Elf Book presents the familiar fairy tale in a short, child-friendly format, with colorful illustrations accompanying the story.

Condition: The book is in good plus condition.  The front and back covers have some light wear, and half of the title has been colored in red with marker on the front cover.  There is a name written on the title page. The inside pages are in very good condition with some minor yellowing from age but no marks, writing, or creases (see photos).
