Product description

Vintage 10-strike matchbook cover (no matches) from the 1970's advertising The Arbor Lodge Motel and the Lamp Post Motel in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The 30-room Arbor Lodge Motel was located at 3245 Washtenaw Ave. at Huron Parkway. It opened in 1956 and operated until 1990. The building was razed in 1992 and replaced by a Barnes & Noble.

The two level 49-room Lamp Post Inn (later called the University Inn) was built in 1960 and was located at 2424 E Stadium Dr near the University of Michigan.  It was located by the Lamp Post Shopping Plaza which contained a Wrigley's grocery store. The motel was demolished in 2002 to make room for a 4-story residential building.

The front cover of the matchbook has The Lamp Post Motel name, logo, and address. The strike side has The Arbor Lodge motel name, logo, address, and phone number.

The inside of the matchbook lists the motel's amenities including "comfortable rooms at comfortable rates", "color TV - AM-FM Radio", "Business Men's Day Rates Available".

The matchbook is a ten-strike matchbook made in the USA by Universal Match, St. Louis.

The matchbook cover is empty and there are no matches, the strike pad appears to be unused. The matchbook cover is in overall very good condition (see photos).
