Product Description

The Little Engine That Could, retold by Watty Piper, and illustrated by George & Doris Hauman.  A Little Golden Book, published by Golden Press, New York and produced by Western Publishing Co, Racine WI. Copyright 1954. Printed in the USA in 1971, Fifth Printing. Hardcover book, 24 pages.

Synopsis:  The story of The Little Engine That Could is a classic tale about perseverance and optimism. It begins with a train full of toys and gifts that breaks down at the bottom of a tall mountain. The toys are worried they won't make it to the children on the other side of the hill in time.

Desperate, the toys ask several larger, more powerful engines passing by for help. Each one refuses, citing reasons like being too important, too busy, or too tired. Finally, a small blue engine comes along. Despite its small size and its own doubts, the little engine decides to try and help the stranded train. As it chugs and pulls up the steep mountain, it repeats the famous mantra: "I think I can, I think I can." Through sheer determination, the little engine makes it to the top and delivers the train's cargo to the waiting children. The story ends with the little engine proudly repeating, "I thought I could, I thought I could."

Condition: The book is in very good condition. There is very light wear on the covers' corner tip edges.  The inside pages are in excellent condition with no writing marks or creases.  The spine and binding are also in very good condition. (see photos).
