Vintage promotional matchbox from the late 1970's advertising The Plaza Hotel at Fifth Avenue and 59th Street (Central Park South) on the western side of Grand Army Plaza.
Printed on the front of the matchbook is the stylized 'The Plaza' logo. The back of the matchbook has The Plaza emblem. Printed on the inside is the hotel address, and the names of the hotel's restaurants and bars: Edwardian Room, Oak Room, Trader Vic's, Oak Bar, Oyster Bar, and The Palm Court.
The matchbook is in good overall condition but the strikepad has been used and there are only two matches remaining (see photos).
The 18 story hotel is a U.S. Historic National Landmark and it is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. In the late 1970's it was owned by Western International Hotels who purchased it in 1974 (the company changed its name from Western International to Westin International in 1981). Donald Trump owned the hotel from 1988 to 1995.
