Vintage promotional safety matches matchbox from the 1980's advertising The Tall Ships Bar and Grill restaurant which was on the street level of the ill fated Vista International Hotel (later renamed the Marriott World Trade Center) which was located at 3 World Trade Center (WTC 3) in Lower Manhattan in New York City.
The matchbook has 'The Tall Ships Bar' logo on the front and back covers. On the side panel it says 'Vista Hotel' and has the phone number. The matchbook was made by Diamond Match New York and is a "Pocketbox Slim".
The matchbook is in very good condition. All matches are intact and the "strike pad" is unstruck (see photos).
The 22 story (plus 6 basement levels), 825 room, Vista Hotel opened in 1981 and was built right next to the World Trade Center's North Tower (1 WTC). The hotel was severely damaged in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and repairs took over a year. It was sold by Hilton International to Marriott in 1995 and renamed the Marriott World Trade Center. It was destroyed on September 11, 2001 (9/11) when sections of the collapsing North Tower fell on its roof.
