Vintage 3-panel 2-sided paper takeout menu from circa 2000/2001 for the Village Mingala Burmese cuisine restaurant which was located at 21-23 East 7th St in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City.
The restaurant opened around 1985 and closed in early 2010 due to rising rents and changing neighborhood demographics caused by the gentrification of the East Village. Village Mingala, along with Cafe Mingala on the Upper West Side (which operated from the mid 90's to 2016) were the only Burmese restaurants in the city during the time they operated.
The restaurant offered a wide assortment of great tasting Burmese food including Thoke, Hin-Cho, Sibyan, Kow Swear, Kyetta, Ametha, Pork/Duck, Seafood, and Burmese appetizers and desserts at affordable prices. Their $4.95 lunch special included an entree and a choice of soup or salad.
Condition: The menu is in very good condition. It has a small crease/wrinkle on the bottom right corner tip, and two of the menu item numbers have circles around them (see photos). The menu is 8.5" x 4.5" folded (and approximately 8.5" x 13.5" when opened).
