Synopsis: Howard the Duck #4, released in July 1976, was written by Steve Gerber and drawn by Gene Colan and Steve Leialoha. The story follows Howard's odd upstairs neighbor, Paul Same, who is an artist struggling with terrible nightmares. While asleep, Paul unknowingly becomes the masked vigilante "Winky-Man," sleepwalking through the city to battle criminals in bizarre, dreamlike adventures. Howard finds himself reluctantly drawn into Paul's surreal nighttime escapades, trying to determine whether his neighbor is losing his mind or somehow living out a strange heroic double life.

Blending superhero parody with psychological comedy, the story uses Winky-Man's absurd exploits to poke fun at comic book conventions while continuing Howard's trademark satirical observations about human behavior. As Howard attempts to be the voice of reason amid increasingly surreal events, the issue balances humor, social commentary, and offbeat adventure. It also marks the beginning of Gene Colan's celebrated run as the series' regular penciler, whose moody, atmospheric artwork became closely associated with the title.
